Craig Ursuy is a Candidate for Long Beach City Council District 6
Craig Ursuy is running for the Long Beach City Council seat in District 6 because he believes the American Dream for young adults like himself is further out of reach.
“…And the politicians are out of touch in our district.”
Ursuy says he’s pained by the high unemployment rate in the sixth district compared to the rest of the city. According to candidate Craig Ursuy, Long Beach was once a beacon for young people to settle; witness the post-world war two settlement of returning soldiers. But that vision has been blurred, says Ursuy, into a city that is unaffordable.
“My vision is for a city that brings and empowers our kids to come together to fight for our own rights and our own self-determination in our city because the path seems to be decided for us.”

PalacioMagazine.com interviewed City Council candidates for Districts 2, 6, and 8. We asked each candidate the same three questions with follow-ups for clarification and more in-depth information.
- Why are you running?
- What is your vision for the District?
- Name and discuss two or three Policy issues
There are six candidates, including the incumbent Vice-Mayor Dee Andrews, battling it out for the council seat (Sharifah Hardie, Suely Saro, Josephine Villasenor, and Ana Arce). PalacioMagazine.com sat down with District 6 candidate Craig Ursuy to get his answers to these questions.
More on Craig Ursuy
“I grew up in a military family where money was always tight. Opportunity was something we had to earn and aspire for if we wanted to succeed on our own. I never forgot the childhood equation that inspires me to this day: DREAMS + ACTION = REALITY
Knowing that nothing comes easy, I still dream big. I worked hard to obtain my bachelors in International Business with honors while holding a rigorous debate scholarship at Hawaii Pacific University. I earned a scholarship to study at the Berlin School of Economics and Law as well as an exchange program to Jean Moulin University in Lyon, France. I later completed my Masters in International Business and Law from Management Center Innsbruck, Austria.
I decided to make a lifelong commitment to public service the moment I moved to Long Beach. Since my arrival, I have worked for Legal Aid Society and currently an Adjunct Professor at Santa Ana College teaching International Marketing and Global Entrepreneurship. I hope to inspire young adults to use their education to realize their dreams. And most recently, I’ve started volunteering at the Open Medicine Foundation which is a research foundation dedicated to ending the suffering of chronic complex diseases, particularly Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
I know firsthand what global forces that are in play, affecting our beloved City of Long Beach and I will fight tirelessly to secure good jobs, grow our city, and eliminate the need for people to sleep on the streets.” Source: Campaign website
