Jeanette Barrera: Candidate for Long Beach City Council District 2
Jeanette Barrera is one of seven candidates running for the Long Beach District 2 City Council seat. Barrera describes herself on her website as the Social Worker that’s needed to solve a Social Crisis. As a mental health provider, Barrera explains that she’s been servicing the community for the past ten years in mental health, social work, and education. Five years ago, she realized that the problem on the ground is not resources, it’s policy.
“And I know that because I’m one of the only candidates who’s actually servicing the residents that I plan to represent one day.”

Jeanette Barrera is moved by the experiences of seeing the level of homelessness not only here in Long Beach but also in Los Angeles as well. It was very concerning to her that as she began to research who were the “people implementing and have the most power over our quality of life” and their career paths and interests, she found them lacking her experience.
“None of them have any experience in social work, homelessness, affordable housing, and I felt that my work experience was absolutely crucial to assist with this crisis that we are in.”
PalacioMagazine.com interviewed City Council candidates for Districts 2, 6, and 8. We asked each candidate the same three questions with follow-ups for clarification and more in-depth information.
- Why are you running?
- What is your vision for the District?
- Name and discuss two or three Policy issues
PalacioMagazine.com sat down with District 2 candidate Jenette Barrera to get her answers to these questions.

More on Jeanette Barrera
“Jeanette is a mental health provider in the City of Long Beach. She managed an early intervention program for homelessness and assisted families struggling due to low wages, unaffordable housing, and a lack of social support. Jeanette has spent thousands of hours in the homes of the residents she plans to represent. She is an independent candidate with no connections to local politicians, only accepting campaign contributions from real voters she’s looking to serve, not PACs or businesses. Jeanette isn’t looking to gain and has no conflicts of interest that would prevent her from voting in service of District 2 residents.”
