“With the commemoration of the first enslaved Africans arriving in Jamestown, Virginia the transatlantic slave trade and its insidious impact has been brought to the forefront for the world to see. Despite having various stories told of the African American experience in the Americas, many do not have a grasp of Blacks’ history in the Western hemisphere. On Thursday, Roland Martin spoke with Dr. Colita Nichols Fairfax who heads up the 1619 – 2019 Commemoration of the First African Landing about the importance of telling the true story of Africans in America.”
