Eduardo Lara: Candidate for Long Beach City Council District 2
Eduardo Lara says he’s running for the Long Beach City Council seat District 2 in order to represent the “diverse communities that we have here.” Lara goes on to explain that he wants to particularly focus on two economic groups, the working class, and middle class.
“…because we have experienced a lot of economic activity in the city but I want to make sure that also translates into economic opportunity for everyone.”
Eduardo Lara is one of seven candidates who are vying to fill the District 2 seat soon to be vacated by the incumbent, Jeannine Pearce.

In the interview with PalacioMagazine.com, the District 2 candidate speaks about his BEACH plan and its many components including Beautification, Economic Inclusion, Access, Climate Change, and Housing.

More on Eduardo Lara
“Dr. Eduardo Lara is a professor and faculty union member at Cal State Long Beach. He is running to be our Long Beach City Councilmember to retain and attract local good-paying jobs, keep our homes affordable, while also addressing homelessness as a social justice issue.
Eduardo’s dedication to building an equitable community started with his parents who came to the United States to provide a better life for their family. Their sacrifice and labor inspired Eduardo to commit to giving back to his community and propelled him down a path of public service. As a teenager, he worked as an advocate for Planned Parenthood, taught middle school at LAUSD after college, and later served as an Obama organizing fellow in South Florida.
In 2015 and 2016, Eduardo helped to successfully organize through his union, the California Faculty Association, the Fight for Five, a 5% general salary increase for all California State University faculty. He has also worked to support the Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition, partnering with then Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez to help pass the Justice Fund in the City of Long Beach. Most recently, he served as a Board Member of the LGBTQ Center Long Beach.
Dr. Lara holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from George Washington University; his Ph.D. in Education is from UCLA.” Source: Excerpt from a biography provided by Dr. Eduardo Lara
