“A Philosophical Look at the Darkside of Comics” by Sherard Robbins
“Comic books, like all fantasy, is designed to serve as an escape from the world; or at least this version of it. But in our escape, what we learn is that the reality of fantasy is that fantasy is reality. In this talk, the audience will learn about the ways in which comic books can serve as a viable medium for understanding the world, similar to news reports, magazines, and data. Sherard Robbins serves as the Assistant Director of Equity & Student Engagement for the University of Arizona. In his role, Sherard serves as the primary educator for staff and students on issues related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and integrity education in the Residence Halls and the Dean of Students Office departments and programs. Sherard works closely with Housing and Residential Life in order to improve the department’s bias response protocol and assist in orchestrating their Multicultural Organizational Development. Along with serving as one of Arizona’s chief diversity educators, Sherard is also a trained First Amendment Monitor and campus facilitator on free speech issues related to the First Amendment.”
