19 Confirmed for March 2 Citywide Candidates’ Forum

All 19 candidates vying for election in the April 12 Long Beach primary have confirmed attendance at a March 2 Citywide Candidates’ Forum. Leadership Long Beach (LLB) is organizing the event in partnership with the Long Beach Public Library, Long Beach Community Action Partnership (LBCAP), Public Access Digital Network (PADNET) and PalacioMagazine.com.

The forum will take place from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Long Beach Main Public Library Auditorium, 101 Pacific Ave., Long Beach CA 90822. The library is next to City Hall. Parking is available in the City Hall garage or on surrounding streets.

Leadership Long Beach Executive Director Jeff Williams said, “In addition to the candidates having an opportunity to present their positions, it’s equally important that city voters are informed about the candidates and the issues. “

A reception will be held from 5-5:30 p.m., with the forum beginning at 5:30 p.m. Candidates scheduled to attend are:

Long Beach City College Trustees District 2: Irma Archuleta (incumbent) and Vivian Williams Malauulu District 4: Doug Otto (incumbent) and Davina M. Keiser

Long Beach Unified School District 2: Felton C. Williams (incumbent) and Jessica Vargas-Alvarez District 4: Jon Meyer (incumbent) and Rosi A. Pedersen

Long Beach City Council District 2: Joen Garnica, Eric Gray and Jeannine Pearce

District 4: Daryl Supernaw, incumbent who is unopposed but who is invited to make a statement.

District 6: Dee Andrews (incumbent who is running as a write-in candidate), Robert Harmon, Erik Miller, Josephine A. Villasenor

District 8: Al Austin II (incumbent), Laurie C. Angel, and Wesley Turnbow

Candidates have been invited to record a 2-minute interview with PADNET during the Forum’s timeframe. The Forum will also be recorded by PADNET. The interviews and the Forum will be posted on PADNET’s cable and FIOS channels and website, padnet.tv, Leadership Long Beach website, leadershiplb.org, and other sites to be determined.

An LLB committee is developing questions based on suggestions from Leadership Long Beach alumni. Forum audience members will also be able to submit questions. The Forum moderator is John Glaza, an LLB graduate.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. Reservations are being accepted online at: https://llb2016electionsforum.eventbrite.com.
