Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteras Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteas in partnership with the communities of Long Beach and Los Angeles will present a traditional Pastorela immersed with stories of immigrants and day laborers. Over 200 residents of Los Angeles and Long Beach have participated in interviews, story circles, community readings, and theater workshops to give shape and voice to a play that dramatizes the communities’ experiences, and celebrates the rich heritage and culture of Las Pastorelas and Posadas.

The play will be performed in Los Angeles and Long Beach. Rehearsals start on October 26th and will run through December 15th. The show will premier on December 17th and December 18th of 2015.

“El Niño Dios viene pal’ Norte has been one of the most ambitions projects from Teatro Jornalero. We are uniting two immigrant communities through one play,” shares Lorena Moran “and I feel that this play comes at a critical point, when the immigrant community is being politically attacked. Through this play we are creating a platform for the immigrant voice, which needs to be heard.”

El Niño Dios viene pal’ Norte is written by Cesar I. Ortega and will be directed by Juan Parada. The play is based on the stories of the day laborer and immigrant community. Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteras and Cesar spent several months collecting stories from local residents, artist, and community leaders. The play takes place modern time, where the American Dream seems to be forgotten, and the future of the immigrant community is doubtful. A family travels from Nazareth to the US to give birth to El Niño Dios. Meanwhile rumor has it that a kid born in LA will bring peace and love to the world. A group of friends will journey in search of the newborn, but their voyage won’t be easy. A band of devils disguised as politicians and dream sellers will tempt their fate in hopes to deviate the friends from finding the newborn who will grant them peace and love. Join Bartolo and his friends in this comical play and sing along to villancicos.

This project is being produced in partnership with Dolores Mission and Latinos en Acion.

El Niño Dios viene pal’ Norte will be performed in Spanish. There will be an English synopsis and scene summaries available in English.
