Shy But Flyy has a quick response when asked at what age she decided performing is what she wanted to do with her life.

“If my mom tells the story, it was right when I was born.”

All kidding aside, Shy But Flyy shares that she just knew that music was going to be a part of her life. She would sit down with her parents and sing for them while banging pots and pans. The singer, writer, and poet recounts first performing in front of audiences as part of a church choir but never as a soloist.

“No, I was way too shy. I loved singing and I liked being surrounded by all the other voices but I never did a solo.”

It wasn’t until high school that Shy But Flyy finally took the dive into performing solo before a live audience.

“My friends were there heard me sing and they were like ‘Hey, you could really sing. We didn’t know you could do that!’”

They signed her up for the talent show and the rest is her story.

“I forced myself to get up and perform in front of everybody and after that, I was hooked. Like I was always performing after that”

Prior to the current prohibitions, PalacioMagazine.com sat down with Shy But Flyy at Utopia Good Food and Fine Art Restaurant in the East Village for a revealing interview. She may be shy but the performer shared heart and soul about her career and passions.

More on Shy But Flyy

The Grunion Gazette recently recorded an interview and performance with Shy in front of their offices on Second Street in Belmont Shore.

Shy But Flyy is a Long Beach-based Blues, Jazz, and spoken-word artist. Shy started out in the music business performing R & B and Hip-Hop and releasing three independent mixtapes in the mid-2000s. Along with mixtapes, she was also featured on many projects and wrote hooks for a wide range of artists in So Cal and Texas.

At one point she took a break to go behind the scenes to get a certificate in the commercial music business, interned at a major record label, and hosted her own radio show, “Flyy Radio” interviewing indie artists.

After the break from the spotlight and soul searching, Shy dove back into the Blues scene. The Blues was always with Shy growing up, so to no surprise, in recent years she began to do it full time. Shy But Flyy has headlined The Uptown Jazz festival, The New Blues Festival, Temecula So Cal Blues Fest, and many other private and public festivals in Long Beach. Most weeks, you can catch Shy with her band, “Shy But Flyy and the Allstarz”.
