Editor’s Note: As part of our continuing coverage of the Long Beach Primary Election 2016, Political Science students at CSULB researched and prepared profiles on each of the candidates for the April 12 election.

Retired Educator
Vision And Mission Statement
- “I’m running for school board because I believe we need to do a better job of opening the door for more opportunities for both students and parents.”
- “After over 30 years of service as both a Long Beach teacher and administrator, I want to continue to make a difference in one of the best school districts in the country.”
- “Promote transparency by creating easier access to school and district information through the use of technology and greater outreach to parents. This would include improving our school board website and making school board meetings more convenient so working parents can attend or monitor them.”
Political/ Activist/ Business Experience
- Rosi Pedersen taught English as a Second Language at Millikan High School and helped start the first high school ESL Program.
- Help to develop two programs that won the California School Boards Association Golden Bell Award: The Summer Enrichment Program for children 1-8 and Proposition 227, community based english tutoring program for parents of english language learners.
- Rosi Pedersen is on the Advisory Board for McBride High School and is a member of the Measure K Citizens’ Oversight Committee for the construction and renovation of schools in LBUSD.
Education
- Rosi Pedersen graduated from Millikan High School
- Attended CSULB where Rosi Pedersen received her elementary teaching credentials
Issues
- Rosi Pedersen wants to expand programs and access to internship to allow students to get experience and access to jobs.
- Pedersen wants to bring back Adult-Education program
- Rosi Pedersen wants to fight for smaller class sizes by thoroughly examining budget priorities. Also would like to help students by increasing support staff at schools, especially counselors and college aides.
