Robert Fox: Candidate for Long Beach City Council District 2
Robert Fox describes himself as a community advocate who is running on a platform slogan of “Restoring the Voice of the People.” Fox attributes his decision to run for the City Council District 2 seat to what he sees as a lack of open communications by the city government. Fox used, as an example, the recent controversy of the “Broadway Road Diet” and the claim the project didn’t reflect years of community visioning.
“…And what I received from the city is that they don’t really don’t care what we think anymore. In fact, everything that we thought about was irrelevant for them.”

Robert Fox has a vision for the City Council district he hopes to represent that makes it a “cradle of democracy” as he describes it.
“We have lost that ability. The reason we have these problems today is because we forgot inclusive government.
There are six other candidates also campaigning to fill the council seat to be vacated by current Councilmember Jeannine Pearce.
PalacioMagazine.com interviewed City Council candidates for Districts 2, 6, and 8. We asked each candidate the same three questions with follow-ups for clarification and more in-depth information.
- Why are you running?
- What is your vision for the District?
- Name and discuss two or three Policy issues
PalacioMagazine.com sat down with District 2 candidate Robert Fox to get his answers to these questions.
More on Robert Fox
“My name is Robert Fox and I’m running for City Council, for the 2nd District of Long Beach, in order to restore your voice. For too long, the residents and businesses of the 2nd District have been ignored by city officials, who pursue policies that benefit the few, the downtown special interests who pull their strings, but are burdensome to the rest of us.
Conflicts of interest, unsafe road diets, more congestion, less parking, more density, and fighting for counterproductive rent-raising gentrification policies are just some of the ways our current councilperson and city officials work against us, instead of for us.
It’s time to stop the insanity and elect someone with common sense who cares about the future of our neighborhoods more than getting a headline for a special interest group or political insider.
But it’s not enough just to complain. I’m offering real solutions to our problems, and I want to work with our residents, neighborhoods, and businesses to move the 2nd District forward, not just for the few, but for every resident.
I am running for the people. People deserve a government that listens to them. People deserve to have their needs met so that they can prosper. If the goal of City Hall is to destroy small businesses and diminish the ability of people to commute and earn an income, then it is time to reform our local government.” Source: Campaign website
