Regina Cash Just Wants to Help: One Cause and One Person at a Time
Regina Cash has education in her blood. Cash is the Director of Academic and Professional Programs at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), College of Continuing and Professional Education. She oversees all the degree and professional development programs for the college. The programs are for returning adult students who want to pursue tune-ups to their careers or even begin new ones. This dedication to education came early for Regina Cash, a native-born Long Beach resident. She remembers an incident when she was only three years old where her parents were discussing a neighbor who had commented on the family’s arrival in the neighborhood,
“Well, they’re moving in. There goes the neighborhood.”
Her father is a three-war veteran who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and Filipino and Japanese-American and her mother is blended German-Filipino-Native American. That memory stuck and motivated Regina Cash to want to go on and help people.
“I didn’t know to what capacity, social worker, teacher, I didn’t know. I just knew that I would be a helper.”
As she grew older, that motivation to help would be shaped by an older brother who was in education. Then, during her first year at Long Beach City College, Regina Cash took a job as a teacher’s aide in the Long Beach Unified School District.
“And I kind of got bit by the education bug.”
