NSFW: Cholos and Cholas READ Mean Comments
Have you checked out “Cholos Try” from MITÚ NETWORK? The network describes it as:
Four L.A. cholos cruise the country to experience various cultures and unique lifestyles. Bold, brash, and brutally honest, they’ll share unique perspectives on everything from Alaskan adventures to bounty hunting, ballroom dancing and more.
Now, I’m not Mexican-American so I don’t know this culture up close other than what I’ve seen on mainstream media. I’ve checked out a few segments on YouTube and I do chuckle. Okay, I laugh out loud. But, it’s a guilty pleasure. I’m not 100% sure if I’m suppose to laugh out loud or wonder aloud if this is the best media representation of Latinx that we could come up with.
Then, I realize that there are many different US. Latinx is not one people. In this country, we like to throw all Spanish-surname/speaking/non-speaking/but look like your not white/ into one big pot and call Latino/Hispanic. It’s more complicated.
When I see the show, I’m curious about it as I always am about “reality-shows”. How real is this and who are these people and why should I care?
I’m curious and sometimes, I really do laugh out loud.
