Spring 2018 is the second of three semesters for Project Vote 2018: The Future of America. This time, we’re simply calling it Vote 2018 Spring Edition. This is the latest partnership between PalacioMagazine.com and the Political Science classes of Professor Som Chounlamountry at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).

As we explained last Fall, the campaign for 2018 mid-term Congressional and Senatorial elections began on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. There 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) up for election on November 6, 2018. The website run by Nate Silver, fivethirtyeight.com, has been tracking polls over whether Democrats can retake the House next year. If the election were held today, Democrats would come out on top, 46.8% versus 37.9%. Not exactly a majority or an overwhelming win. Check out the poll HERE and you’ll see how the percentages have been swinging up and down.

The students in Professor Chounlamountry’s Fall class tackled the races in three states: Michigan, Nevada, and Arizona. For Vote 2018 Spring Edition, we’re continuing our look at the fascinating races in Nevada and Arizona but this time around we’re adding three Congressional races in Orange County, California.

Vote 2018 Spring Edition

Here are the teams for Vote 2018 Spring Edition who will be tackling the continuing coverage of all these races. Their stories are expected to be posted in June 2018.

Vote 2018 Spring Edition: Battleground California Congressional Races

For Vote 2018 Spring Edition, this group of students will be focused on the three battleground races in Orange County. The Republican incumbents in two of those races (39th and 49th) have announced that they will not seek reelection in 2018. A third Congressional race, 48th, was rated a Toss-up by media outlets.
